  • New to veg growing

I started my veg garden last weekend. I know ive started late but want to see how I get on. I have planted potatoes in a grow bag (last weekend) and two days ago I planted carrots and lettuce (separately) in containers.

I was wondering when I am likely to see them all sprouting? Once I see them coming through, I think I will start relaxing a bit

Hello there and welcome to the vine.

I'm going to call you Bab because I'll never remember all those numbers!!!

I think you're looking at about 14 days or more for the carrots, maybe a little less for the lettuce? Not sure about tspuds this time of year.

If you want some quick veg to get you started you could try dwarf french beans, kohl rabi, radishes etc or perhaps get down to your local garden centre...I hear lots are discounting their veg plants about now.

Hello Bab welcome to the vine. I agree with Muddled ^^^ lettuce germinates very quickly, carrots a bit longer and I always planted my spuds in cooler weather so they take a little longer. Have you got any pics of your garden space, what else are you thinking of growing?

Are you just growing in pots? Carrots don't like being moved once sown.

I sowed some seed spuds recently, took about 2 weeks to pop up a little bit of leaf, although it depends how much soil/compost is covering them, mine are more than half full,40 litre bags.

Hello BAB, welcome to the Vine. You do know that once you see those seeds coming through, you'll be hooked? Enjoy your growing. 7-14 days I'd say

Ooh and BTW - if you've got some large containers, I'd recommend you sow a squash or two (courgette, pumpkin etc.). They germinate really quickly and are a joy to watch
