  • onions from sets

    Hi

My onions from sets aren't looking too good at all. I've pulled a few sad looking ones up and there has been no bulb growth at all. I thought even children could grow these! I've got a feeling that they are all going to be the same....good job my wife likes the leaves to put in scrambled egg! The leaves are doing fine....where have I gone wrong?

Don't worry, HotH, that is what they do. First they grow leaves - the more the merrier - then once the days start to get shorter they grow a bulb, then finally they suck all the goodness out of the leaves and store it in the bulb.

So as long as they have leaves and roots just now they are doing fine. You'll be amazed at the transformation over the next 2 months!

check the roots for white fuzzy fungus it could be white rot but if the leaves are green you should be fine

white rot yellows the leaves and leaves fuzzy white fungus on the roots if they have this then bin them do not compost them

Panic ye not, as previously said by far better onion growers than I, you will be amazed how they suddenly start to swell.
