    Is this a banana plant

    Hi all
    Bought this houseplant from car boot sale. Lady who sold said this was a banana houseplant. Any help to recognise it and how to grow this indoors. Thanks in advance for your help.

    may be she was meant to say houseplant that looks like banana plant! at that size banana plant leaves should look very tender if remember correctly.

      Looks far more like a Strelitzia regina plant to me. Bananas have leaves with far shorter leaf stems while Strelitzia has leaves on longer stems. I have both growing in the conservatory next to this room and just checked and compared them!

      Strelitzia needs similar conditions to the banana and needs to be kept frost free but given its reasonable size you might have it flowering in a year or two, if my identification is correct.
