  • Any idea on variety of rose this is?

I bought this in the UK from our local b+q.....I got it as it has variegated leaves....no idea on variety!, I got a discount as the pot was cracked in 2 and it had no label......

No roses open yet, but flower starting to open and seems to be red in colour...... ( strange spikes behind it are the cactus its living in front of....)

Bit of a long shot....before the flowers open , but maybe someone has bought a variegated rose from b+q.....

I cant see them having a selection of them.....are there different variegated roses in the UK??

Not many from the look of things!!!

I've found this pink one with similar leaves...

Verschuren Rose Bush - Style Roses

Was it variegated when you bought it?

Do be aware that the variegated leaves can get sunburn!!!!!!

I like anything with variegated leaves so had to have it, every leaf is variegated on it, i saw it in the roses in the b+q....but it had been squashed so had smashed pot and no tag.....it came free.....when I bought some others!

The one in the link seems to be very pale pink compared to this, this looks more deep red, close to purple, but it might be an optical illusion, but its the only one found so far!

I always find it strange that variegated plants want less light, I would have thought that with less chlorophyll so lower photosynthysis in the leaves I would presume more light is needed but they always want lower light than the non variegated version, my variegated citrus all needs to stay in the shade or the leaves fall off

All i can find is people saying they have variegated ones....when its the flowers are bicolour stripes...variegated flowers!

I have an obsession with variegated plants....out of millions of seedlings that fall from a sycamore every year into our garden in the UK....I now have a variegated one.....I know people hate sycamore...but you cant hate a variegated one

Doesnt look like mosaic , as there are 3 definate colours and also, its on all branches fromthe rootstock ,apparently very very rare for it to spread or affect every part of the plant

On a lot of sites it looks similar, so it could be....but it doesnt spread anyway..., but nothing on this site looks similar and the site is usually quite accurate

I tend to go by growth. Has/is yours growing well, if it is I would say it is variagated rather than diseased. My recent one looks healthy (apart from being white and green) but it only has a spread of 20-30cm I will post a pic at some point.

Mine is still in the smashed pot, in the house so not getting that much light as behind net curtain, it had3 shoots 8 inch high shoots when purchased from 2 shoots from the rootstock, now after a about 10 days its nearly 2 foot high, 2 shoots from each of the 2 shoots from the rootstock, only one very tall, others still between 6 inch and 18 inch, but havent fertilised it or anything

Ive just found another that looks very similar to the curiosity as well (one site says different, other sites say the same as it???), `Best Wishes` Climbing rose , the climbing one seems to have variegated leaves and similar colour flower to this ones buds, and homebase were/are selling it so probably the same one as b&q

Will have to see what the flowers are like!

I didnt know that there were variegated leaf roses, never mind a selection of them

Sorry, but that does look like mosaic virus to me. I have a new rose with that problem and it seems to be growing ok at the moment. Apparently MV doesn't mean quick death of the plant, although it probably won't perform as well as a healthy rose

Why not email B&Q headquarters and ask them if they have stocked a verigated variety?

Not all staff there are gardeners and someone may have chucked it out knowing it was diseased and in all innocence another kind member of staff has rescued what looked like a healthy plant with a broken pot and passed it on as a freeby.

If they say they haven't then I think it might be fair to say it's diseased??????

No harm in trying espesh if they come up with a verigated variety they deffo were selling!!!

I have asked again and , they did have a few of them but they are not popular so dont get many, they bought a bulk delivery of mixed roses and b&q office say they did contain best wishes variegated or the other name celebration rose

It does not really look like mosaic virus, the mosaic looks completely different , these leaves have 3 deffinate colours and a different style of marking unlike mosaic,

One flower has now opened and its the same as Best wishes, this is what it looks like now

This is a picture off google image search for ` best wishes rose variegated`
