  • When are tomatoes ready to go outside

I had some tomato plugs come through the post a few weeks ago. They were really tiny and looked as though they might not survive. They are in pots up in the attic at the moment and doing quite well.
My question is they are growing but are not really that high - about 16 cm tall. How high should they be before I plant them out (on the allotment)?

They can be planted out as soon as your nighttime temperature are consistently over 10c, the size doesn't really matter so long as they don't get too cold and the wind doesn't break them. I would start to harden off now, to be ready to plant out ASAP. Fingers crossed after this windy weather we will have some luck with the sun.

      REALLY?

Sorry, should wash out my mind out, it's the wind!

I am going to plant mine out on Thursday or the weekend as there is forecast for another cold night tomorrow night.

Well.... they have to be big enough to withstand a slug attack but the weather is getting warmer and light is beneficial too. Growing on indoors can cause problems with lack of light and too much warmth.
