  • Decorating help please

I have just re-decorated my lounge, changing the colour of the walls from cream to very pale grey which I love. However I have an electric fire in there with an mdf type surround. Oak type mantel and cream back and hearth. The oak coloured mantel looks fine but the cream back and hearth look awful with the new wall colour.

Does anyone know if I can paint it and if so with what sort of paint?

I'd pop to B&Q and ask them
There do seem to be various stove/high heat resistant paints available so it's probably safest to use one of those.

Thanks for the reply. Heat resistance isn't really an issue. I never use it as an actual fire and it is only blown air. I use it just for the glow effect.

Here- have a look at these.

They supply expensive paint, but the Vintage one can be painted onto almost anything!
        Nice colour range too.
Might be worth looking at their other ranges too/phoning them.

With an electric fire there are usually no heat issues as you would get with a gas fire. So you can use pretty much any type of paint you like.

If you feel slightly worried I would look at the range of paints designed for use on radiators, these are usually heat resistant up to 100'C. That way you are covered if someone else decides to switch it on.
