Hi my new plot is full of surprise. I star to cleaning some weed and I only found one slug and that's all. After some plot neighbours told me that he put a big bath tub in my plot as a pond at the back and I didn't found it but was a fence on the ground and I decide to lift to see if was mouthing there I was surprised to see no slug under there and I found 4 massive toad as big as my fist and they run away. Now I'm worry when I star to clear the plot would them leave my plot because they may feel threatened. I will leave the pond area quite wild but I don't want them to leave my plot completely. Is something that I don't need to worry? I would love them in there but I would love to have must the plot to be use for growing veggies.

I shouldn't worry. If you have a small wild patch nearby they will hang around and keep munching slugs for you.The cats' valet.

No need to worry, as long as you leave a retreat area for them they will soon be back.

I think frogs/toads have a few ponds they visit. My neighbour had a 10ft x10ft pond,but I always seemed to have a frog or toad in my tiny water feature,like it wanted a peaceful get-away from the hustle & bustle of big city pond life next door. There were baby frogs too,it was difficult mowing the lawn,I'd sweep my foot over the grass before cutting & see them,tiny,jumping around. But with all my activity,they never left. Quite regularly I'd move the pond grass over to one side & see the little toad sitting at the side,picked him up once too,friendly little creatures.

As far as I am aware, frogs will return to spawn in the same bit of water they grew up in ( can you say 'hatched'?????)
Many years ago my mom filled in a pond in her back garden and for at least 6 years afterwards once a year there were 'frog reunion parties'taking place in the Spring on her lawns and herbaceous borders....just in the area where the pond had been.
I think it would take a lot to stop frogs from returning to their spawning pond."Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Just make sure if you have a pond in an old bath (I have) that there is always something that amphibians or any wild life can use to climb out of it. I have found frogs that have jumped into bath ponds and then can't get out because of the slippery sides.Comment
