Can anybody ID this plant? Possibly a herb.

    Can anybody ID this plant? Possibly a herb.

    I was wondering if anybody could help me ID these plants.

    They've been in my garden for about three years in a tiny pot with all the roots bound up, and I've just left them because I didn't know what they were.

    They die off in winter and then come back every year, and I seem to remember being told they were a herb. Any ideas? Thanks

    Im not sure, I'm tempted to say lemon balm but it doesn't look quite right.have you rubbed the leaves. What does it smell of?

      Its not lemon balm. These leaves look furry.
      As Scarlet says, what does it smell of?
      Does it flower? Maybe very small white or blue flowers?
      I feel I know it but the name escapes me at the moment.


      Is it Catmint/Nepeta?

                  Nepeta or cat mint. My two cats go mad for it. Grows about a foot tall with lavender blue flowers.

                    I agree with Wendy, catmint. I don't know about it being a foot tall, the one I grew was a good three feet tall, that was nepeta cataria. There are quite a few different catmints

                        Anyone see the programme this evening on pets on BBC1? Wendy is right they showed how cats react to this plant...unbelievable, they absolutely love it!

                          Yip, that's the one. My mam agrees - she mistakingly bought it as a cat repelent !

                          I think I'll just take it out to be honest, then. I might plant it somewhere in my street. Would rather have another type of mint!
