  • Potato problems

    Hi
I planted my potatoes at the beginning of march. They started to emerge last week. I was at the allotment today and the leaves have started to wilt. Any advice on what it could be?

They have been frosted. Hopefully they will resprout but may be set back a week or two. Try earthing over to protect any surviving stems.

As you have discovered, spud foliage is not hardy (cold tolerant).
If you CBA, put fleece over when frost is forecast

Hi. A couple of my spuds last year got caught last year but soon picked up as other shoots appeared.
Like Two Sheds advices if they forecast a frost just quickly cover them over with fleece.

Unless you are gardening in a mild area, early March is VERY early for planting out potatoes you need to keep an eye on the weather and cover with earth/fleece if frost is forecast.

Hello Franjapani & welcome to the Jungle. I've nothing to add to what has already been suggested.
