  • Just a heads up

Weather looks like turning cold again next week (for some anyway). Overnight frosts with sleet and snow showers. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone was planning on planting anything delicate outside.

Yep, frosts forecast here too. I'll be pulling soil over all the potatoes at the weekend!

Yes, its certainly going to be a big shock to the system after several weeks of warmth and sunshine. My main concern is teh apple blossom, which has started to open today. A few years back we had a late frost and all the apple blossom turned brown. I only got 1 apple off the tree that year. I will be rigging up a fleece shelter for the tree over the weekend.

I'm working out and about up Kielder next week so I imagine the weather is going to be fantastic.

On a gardening note - I was going to plant out my broad beans and 1 or two other things next week. Looks like I will be waiting until the cold snap has gone. Hopefully this one will be the last of the cold.

Lids on bins, smaller pots back to the GH and fleece for the stuff that cannot be moved.

Cold spells, hot spells, droughts, hailstorms, frogs falling from the sky.....it's just weather and we're gardeners so we just deal with it.

Temperatures here tonight are forecast to drop to about 1 degree after a few warmer nights. If you are in a rural or frost prone area it is probably worth dragging out the fleece tonight and again on Saturday night, after which I think it is supposed to warm up a bit.
