  • Just got my allotment

Despite my local allotments having large waiting lists (5+ years for my closest), I've just been offered a half plot at another allotment after being on the list for about a week Little bit further than is ideal, but I pass there quite often and I don't mind the trip.

Can't wait to start digging up and planting stuff.

My plot is at Church Lane Allotments, Kirkstall, Leeds. Hi to anyone else here who also has a plot there.

I was shown around on Saturday to see a few potential plots that were becoming available. Sadly no photos yet. Once I get access - after paying the rental fee - I'll be up to take some photos for a good old "before and after" series.

Plot has lots of old strawberry plants and a globe artichoke, which hopefully I can make some use of (and lots of couch grass).

What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?

First day on plot. Lots of grass and must be over 200 strawberry plants split over about 6 beds! Sadly full of weeks so Dug myself a small bed for about 4x8 strawberry plants. Not sure what to do with the rest. Anyone in Leeds want some strawberry plants....

A photo of my overall plot should be attached.

Congrats on your new plot Steven, I also had a plot in Oakwood before I retired & moved to pastures new.

Just noticed the photos hadn't uploaded properly, so where's another attempt.

My plot goes up to the artichoke at the back (and doesn't include the dug bed on the right of the photo).

Hey, Steven! Glad to hear you got more plot. Are you planning on mulching it? If so, what kind of mulch and why? Thanks in advance!

                      Hi Jimmy,

Not planning on mulching. Plot seems to already be split into a number of non-raised beds so might roughly keep the layout and just dig each patch as I go. Already started and there's lots of couch grass roots to dig out by hand, bit at least the soil is nice and soft so far, helping to make it a bit easier.
