Onions that I sowed in January and then potted up into individual pots, now have their roots coming through the bottom of the pots. is it safe to plant them out into their final positions outside now.

If you've hardened them off then yes, they should be fine. Mine are going in as soon as I get chance. -
As has been said, harden them off and they should be fine.
I love growing onions from seed. I tried growing them for the first time 2 years ago but from sets and never had much success. So last year I thought I'd try growing them from seeds and I had much better results.Comment

They will tolerate a lot of root constriction, prior to planting out, so I wouldn't be too worried about that - e.g. don't skim on hardening them off before planting out if you are worried that they are getting pot bound.Originally posted by AlanP View Post

They are been hardened off at the moment and are going to be planted out on Thursday as it promises to be a nice day

I'm in north Cumbria and mine went in a week or so ago. Their hardening off consisted of a couple of days out of the greenhouse but they are looking healthy enough.Comment
