  • Rotavator clutch cable Flymo DM

Hi all, my flmo dm rotavator clutch cable snapped yesterday and I cant find a replacement.

I suppose any cable would do(bicycle brake cable) it just need a loop putting on each end and idea how to do this. present one has what looks like metal (perhaps lead) hammered over both bits of cable to form the loops.

It also has a small chain attached to one loop but that could be transferred over.

    Any help greatly appreciated

What you are looking for is .. Bowden (inner) cable .. the loops are held in place by crimps that are crushed onto the cable with a hydraulic press, if there are shaped supports inside the hoops they are called .. thimbles.

Best place to get one made is probably a boatyard (one that works on yacht rigging) or possibly a motorcycle workshop, I doubt if a bicycle shop would carry a strong enough cable.

If it is 2mm or 3mm cable you could use bolt up cable grips, two each end (but it will not look pretty ) as on up & over garage doors, example .... Universal garage door cables

Alternatively if you're handy (or know someone who is) drill a single hole through a bolt, right up close to the head. Thread the cable through the hole then back through the hole again to form a loop. Secure it by screwing on a nut.

Hi , I think I have found one almost the same, thanks for the pointers on what to look for.
