  • Carrot seedlings

Had a look at my carrot seeds and noticed a few seedlings coming through.

Should hopefully have carrots in a few weeks

Any thing I should know about them ?

Compost looks really wet but it's just the way the photo is taken

Were they sown where they are to grow? Carrots don't transplant well as they tend to fork and grow in funny shapes if the main root is damaged.

No, should I plant them where I want them to grow just now?

Yes I would move them asap. It could be into a deep pot depending on where you have to grow them. They might need a bit of protection from the cold if they have been used to the warmth of indoors. Plenty of time to sow more if they don't work out.

If you're growing them in open ground they'll need protecting from carrot fly(fleece or something similar). If they're at home and sheltered you might get lucky. The slugs will also chomp them down as soon as they poke their heads through. I haven't sown mine yet - usually wait until April as they don't like cold soil. I'd deffo sow some more as they won't appreciate being transplanted.
