  • Sowing seeds?

I have just sown for the first time ever some cabbage, leeks and spring onion seeds in tray's with one of those clear plastic covers over the top of them.
Will these all be ok in my unheated greenhouse to germinate or should I bring them in the house.
The greenhouse has been getting upto nearly 20 degrees on sunny days and been dropping to around 10 on a night.

    Thanks for any advice

If it's 10 degrees at night I'd have thought they'd all be fine in the greenhouse... Just don't over-water them or they might go smushy and rot. Damp, not drowned .

At those temps they should be fine as they're all quite hardy little things. When temps in the greenhouse are dipping below 10C though, germination will begin to suffer.

Personally, I get a germination rate of about 20% with spring onions though despite perfect conditions. Whereas leeks and cabbages are near 100% with me (Germination temps around 12-15C in a cool window). So I wouldn't trust me when it comes to spring onion advice

That's great, how long should it be before I can see some spouting up.

The cabbages will appear fairly quickly - probably around a week. Onion family are rather slower, so probably 2-3 weeks for the spring onions and leeks.
