  • blackberry spacing

hi all I`ve just got myself 2 blackberry plants to go on my plot and I was wondering how far apat I should plant them ? I`ve got wooden posts put in the ground with wires running horizontal and wanted to train the plants along them, afreind said to put the plants 1 at each end and train them toward each other but that would mean the plants are 15 meters apart would that be to much ? the plants are rubus fruit thornfree if that helps ,cheers

    2.5m-4.5m apart according to RHS

eventually you'd get new canes filling it up I guess? But for the next few years you would have a big gap in the middle

I would go with that spacing and then Year one train the canes one was and then the new canes in the opposite direction, then you won't get a jumble of old and new canes.
