  • Roses in Pots

I have some pots with the following measurements.

    Diameter at top: 56cm
    Diameter at base: 50cm
    Height: 53cm
    Approx Volume: 110 litres

Are they large enough to grow rose bushes in? I am considering 60cm to 90cm height and spread.

Those are some sized pots you have there. I'm assuming you are talking about 1 rose per pot.

As far as bush roses go they will probably grow away healthily for a while. But as with all containers that soil will inevitably become sterile and will need changing IMO. Bear in mind that rose roots can grow 3' and more in size when mature so even your large pots will eventually contain pot bound roses. If you are going to stick with growing them in pots I would consider changing the soil every 2 - 3 years and trim the roots back. Also fork in a slow release fertiliser into the soil every spring (except the year of planting). I'd give it a go.
