  • whats the best frypan

    there are some white ones that don't need oil are they any good or is it any new frypan is the best, Ive got induction , doctor says to be carefull and not over do it

    Personally I'd go with a tefal, cheap and cheerful (always on offer in &sd@) so you can change them often. OH "treated" me to a le crueset frying pan one year (comes with a guarantee) it warped on my Aga and I couldn't use it again on the hot plates. It was also very heavy...saucepans I'd go for a good make but I wouldn't bother for a frying pan.

      I've got several frying pans, copper for omelettes, cast iron - fantastic for steaks, cheap and cheerful small for anything, but the best all rounder is definitely my Tefal.

      I've looked at the ceramic ones but despite the adverts I have never found the big sized one.

        I have found the tefal the best all rounder and value for money,i got one of them ceramic jobs,twice the price of the former,but never again,i do use it ever so often,but only for things like black pudding chunky rings straight from the freezer,bit of bacon,eggs and omelets are a nono,tefal is the best,but always use a none metal lifter ext,

          So long as I have a dedicated egg pan for frying, I don't really mind.

                I have an Induction Hob. Best investment i have made. But pans must be steel, iron or in my case Stainless Steel. Mine frying pan is Circulon, or some such name. very heavy and non stick coating. Not cheap but very well made.

                  I bought a Green pan a few years ago which wasn't cheap (although it was on offer) as I was fed up with having to throw away non stick pans so regularly as the Teflon stuff started to break up - horrible stuff that I really don't want in my body. Really good buy, hardly need any oil and easy to keep clean. A bit discoloured on the outside now but perfect inside.

                  Interesting that some people rate the Circulon ones, had one once, it lasted longer than some types but the non-stick still broke down and that's a risk I don't want to take.

                  Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

                  Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                    When we switched to Induction we had a couple of pans marked Stainless Steel (and they look it!) which didn't work. No idea why ... when buying new I buy ones labelled "Suitable for Induction" - just mentioning it in case anyone else gets caught out (or has an explanation??) with a Stainless Steel pan that wont' work.

                    One of mine was the Asparagus steamer ... not cheap to buy in the first place, not cheap to have had to replace - thought the original was going to last me a lifetime!!

                      That's one of the things that put me off an induction hob when we got a new cooker a couple of years ago, none of my pans (including my beloved jam pan) would have worked and I know how faddy I am about them being "just right". When I added the replacement of all the pans plus the extra cost of the induction I plumped for gas.

                        Cost apart, I'd happily replace all pans in order to have Induction over anything else.

                        Previously kitchen had both Gas and Induction, and we did use both (particularly for Wok on Gas), but only got induction now (and a Tepanyaki which does for some Wok stuff, plus some new flat-bottomed Woks suitable for induction). Had to get a new Jam pan though ... what was going to be a cooker that cost a lot of money turned into a cooker that cost an awful lot of money!!

                        Mrs K a fan of putting all the pans on the hob and then answering the phone for ... hours! ... ruining the meal AND all the pans!! Now with induction can set timers on all rings, and if anything boils over it just shuts down. Heat is as precise, to my way of thinking, as gas was.

                        My only grievance is that if you put something on the hob (an oven dish, for example) the whole hob shuts down. Mother in Law does that every time she comes and kindly makes lunch.

                          I went over to Induction when i had my kitchen done. (first time for over 30 years.) I was always forgetting to turn of gas rings. That dont happen with the auto shut off with induction. Its easy to clean and very easy to to control the heat. Best thing i have ever bought. Yes i had to buy all new pans and a new pressure cooker, but i no longer burn pans and hands.

                            I think I had that drummed out of me as a kid by my mum, that and forgetting to turn off lights .

                            Seriously though, have been very impressed with induction and if I was starting out with nothing I may well have gone down that path but I have beautiful (well you know what I mean) pans which were wedding presents as well a load of other specialist pans that would be hard to replace for equivalent so, for us, these cons outweighed the pros but can see why it could be the other way for other people, especially if you ruin pans a lot

                              looking at my non stick pan its coming off now going in the bin, but had another one I picked up sometime ago, but am tempted to buy a white one from aldi when available
