    Hi all.

Can anyone suggest any good websites for a decent quality (small) wooden shed?

I have looked at a couple of sites but there are no reviews so I'm reluctant.

I've read the reviews of B&Q sheds and they're not amazing.

    Thanks.

Wilkos seems to have better feedback than most, but what they are actually like I have no idea

I had the worst experience this week with a shed one of my customers bought on-line. They say you get what you pay for and this was a classic example. utter crud. Every aspect made in the manner likely to cost the supplier the least amount of money.

My advice, seek out a local shed maker and go along to see what they are producing. You will see the materials and if the boards they use are ¼" thick or less, walk away and find another one. If they are half decent, they will have an erection service as well.

I've bought three wooden sheds in the last three years, two online from Tiger and one from B and Q. The Tiger ones were very good for the (cheap) price with no assembly difficulties but the B and Q one was rubbish and is already falling apart.

I've found Argos to be good for my garden sheds, one was moved several yrs after being built & didn't/hasn't fallen apart,it's about 14 yrs old. Painted them both pale green to strengthen the wood & protect it from the weather. There are some good reviews on the Argos website for sheds.

I got one from BeenQueued and even though it was extremely cheap, I still feel ripped off. Warped doors, wood shrinking so much the walls are see through - and this was after about 3 months

I agree completely. When we were poultry farmimg we built many many sheds, all of 1/2 tounge and grooved seasoned pine/deal and 2x2inch carcasses. this was in the 1950's and 60's and I sold most off them off in the 80's. Of those i still know the whereabouts of they are as solid today as when they were built. they were creosoted every year. Buit on brick piers to keep them off the ground and the nails were re done after 25 years (They rotted before the wood). Anyone good at DIY can make one.

The sheds nowadays are very poor, thin and nasty, but of course less expensive.

Mine was free off freecycle, all we had to do was revert the roof but to be honest, if you've not paid for it then it's defo a bargain . Don't get one too small though and I'd recommend wood over plastic or metal, much more pleasant, less sweaty / noisy and you can add shelves, hooks etc easily.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Yeah I had a look at the plastic ones when I was in B&Q...they're really not nice at all! I can't imagine wanting to spend any time in one of those.

I paid a local place to have one made. It wasn't cheap but it is well made and hopefully it will last lots of years. Looked at those at B&Q and the wood was all split and wood looked very thin with lots of knots in the panels.
Think you get what you pay for.

Are you referring to the Dalek ones? I have two of those (in addition to more conventional ones); they are subsidised by local councils, from time to time. I use mine for kitchen waste and by the greenhouse - easy to just lift the lid and chuck the material in, especially when only small quantities. When I have barrowloads of material I put them on the bigger heaps. The Daleks, being black, heat up well in the sun too.

I don't believe that the little trap door at the bottom would ever allow "nice, fine, mature compost" to be removed by the cup full!! as per adverts, but one advantage of the cone shape is that you can just lift it off the heap - that makes it much easier to turn the contents than a compost heap with fixed sides where you have to shovel the contents out, or up-and-over into the next bay.

I wouldn't fancy spending much time inside a compost bin either, Kristen, but the OP was talking about sheds!!
