  • Allotment is with pools of water after rain, cold frame door blown after wind

Today I went to see the place after the start of christmas break, only to know around 3m of plot is almost submerged with water. right side is a bit elevated fruit orchard . left side new owners worked out the plot from an year. so ours seems to be too low to theirs and all the water is drained.

I have not planned to plant any to this area as I wanted to make it as play area for the kid. which doesn't seem to be feasible.

Should I leave this space? or any ideas to make it usable.

Cold frame is basically pergola with sides and a door to back of it. the door is blown off. any way I do not need the door so shifted the door on to weed cover.

Don't panic. Things will probably dry out when Spring arrives

Hmm.. get more rains in spring wouldn't make it worse? Think this is first time I find the puddles after october.

Perhaps you could build up the low side to level it with the rest of the plot - to stop it puddling there.

          VC,

Think it take full load of soil, not worthy during first year as there would be lots of other costs to grow some veg in the rest of plot. looks like next lottie owner filled big tub with this water

On a positive note - it's best to find these areas of poor drainage at this time of year, when little is in the ground.

Now you know where they are - you can start to plan improving the area and/or planting thirsty veg and fruit for this year
.......because you're thinking of putting the kettle on and making a pot of tea perhaps, you old weirdo. (Veggie Chicken - 25/01/18)
