There's a French one too, but I can't seem to find a link to it

Always worth taking time to record this sort of info

Nicos there is a GLOBAL count done in February - details here About | GBBC and a specific French one here TAG on-line: France's third annual bird count

Plenty of opportunities to get involved

                  This one for France?

Awful website to navigate around but great for filling in your observations.

Brill!...I want to try to encourage as many peeps as possible here to do it.

When we first moved here we put up our peanut feeders and about 30 blue and great tits suddenly appeared.
Our next door neighbours who have been here for over 30 years looked at them and asked if we'd brought the birds with us
And then couldn't tell us the French names of most of the birds we saw

This bird watching/count should really help encourage people to be more aware of their local bird population as well as helping with National Statistics!

We are all set for bird watching. Got the feeders filled up and will top them up again in the morning and put some more bits down for the Blackbirds.
Going to sit in the car facing the garden. The kids can sit there in the warmth and have things to eat and drink and not disturb the birds.

Don't forget to upload your results to the RSPB website before 16th February https://www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch/

For fun / interest please also list them on this thread. So here's mine in no particular order:

                          Feral Pigeons 17
                          House Sparrows 20
                          Blackbirds 3
                          Starlings 26
                          Great Tits 3
                          Blue Tits 2
                          Robin 1
                          Chaffinch 2
                          Greenfinch 4
                          Dunnock 2
                          Wood Pigeon 1

                          Wren 1

Sadly no collared doves or goldfinches seen this year.

                            Here's my list

                            Great tit 6
                            Blue tit 3
                            Marsh tit 1
                            Robin 1
Dunnock (always called Duncans in our house) 1
                            Tree sparrows 5
                            Chaffinch 4
                            Blackbird 2
                            Nuthatch 1

The pair of collard doves kept away as did the usual flock of goldfinches, but it is the first time we've had the tree sparrows in five years
And as an aside we saw Alpine accentors (or mountain Duncans!) for the first time up at the Tourmalet yesterday.

We did this too. Sullen teenager disinterested suddenly wanting to answer the random questions that flashed up. She loved the fact that blackbirds love sunbathing! "They can't resist it" she read and grinned (i was thrilled she was showing an interest, but I was trying to be cool!) we have the biggest wood pigeon you've ever seen. Somedays I think I feed him and all the other birds go somewhere else as he hogs the feeder and they can't get near.
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!
