    Growing Sweet Potatoes

    I remember there was a post about a sweet potato challenge, I searched it, but I couldn't find it. Last growing season I was too late for this and I would like to try to grow SP next year but I'm not sure when should I start sprouting them. I don't want to be late again.

    Also, considering my location, should I grow them outdoors or in the greenhouse? Not sure how much space they need. Thanks!

      Thanks for your message.

      I'm not sure but I think it was a challenge where different people participated, but I may be wrong.

      Did you started sprouting the sweet potatoes in December and January then? Can I grow then in a container in an unheated greenhouse or better outdoors? When to harvest?

        I grew some this year from a discounted plant from a shed.

        They like heat. So I would use a greenhouse if I had one or else maybe in a large black container. The plants are basically a creeping vine (you can tie up vertical) and they aren't small but not unruly.

          Hi, I just love growing sweet potatoes, they grow with little water and fertilizer, and are very sweet.

          Since they are warm weather vegetables you need to grow them in a warm place making them good vegetables to grow in your green house.

            Indeed they do Kate, but I think the general growing conditions in Swaziland are rather good for this particular crop, much more so than in Northern Europe.

              I tried growing them in the tunnel this year and only harvested the ones I planted...........................Too much faff in my experience growing slips but good luck to those who wish to try.
