  • busy lizzie....possible ever again?

About 2 years so, I managed to grow this from seed...I believe it was a busy lizzie...please correct me if wrong!...

Are they still available to buy from seed to look like this?!?

I'm growing a busy lizzie at the moment but doing know what flower colour it will be!
    Any ideas any one?

    Thank you!

I think the top flower is a pink morning glory - you can buy those as seeds.
The bottom picture is a Busy Lizzie, you will need to wait for it to flower to know what colour it will be.

The top one is definitely not a Busy Lizzie. I doubt if it's a morning glory either, because that's more of a vining plant, although the flowers are a similar shape. I think it looks more like a mallow. It's a very pretty one.

I should think you could save the seeds after it finishes flowering, then you won't need to buy any.

But I agree about the bottom one being a busy lizzie. They come in a few different colours. No way of telling yet which it will be.

I think the top one has the wrong stamens, to be a morning Glory - it looks like a Lavatera to me

They're very easy to grow from seeds, cos they're hardy annuals

If you save your seed you may get the odd white one or you can buy packets of seeds for white flowers. Love them!!!

...I wasn't able/didn't know how to collect the seeds.

I agree with the Lavatera/mallow identification.
It self seeds quite easily and I've had them appear in the garden from nowhere! Always welcome though.

Thank you! Is a Lavatera and Mallow the same flower? Or just from the same family or same flower but different type?? X

They're the same family, but I think the Mallows are more inclined to be taller/shrubby and most are perennial.

Lavatera are shorter and easier from seed.

Lavatera is the Latin name and mallow is generally the common name. But there are several different species in that genus, and common names might also vary from place to place. Botanists sometimes disagree about the Latin name too and call them Malva instead.

Yes that looks just like it. Well spotted Wendy! And Seedaholic is a good company to deal with. They are based in Ireland but don't mind posting to other countries. And they have lots of other nice varieties.
