  • Hi, I'm from wiltshire

    Hi,
I just joined. Have been a member on gardeners world forum for a whole but just found this site, which looks a bit bigger, when searching for seed swaps.

I'm disabled and mostly housebound but get out in my small garden a bit. I have a very small veg patch that I grew a few things in this year - potatoes mainly. Because of health issues I have a lot of food intolerances so growing organic veg is my main motivation as I can eat it safely.

I'm pretty poor, frankly, so I try to make the garden pay for itself, and avoid by expensive tools, plants, seeds, compost, etc. if I can make do or get something in the sale at Wilkinsons or something like that then great. My wife got me some pea/bean soil bacteria in a packet for 30p the other week, much reduced. That's the sort of thing I like. No idea if it's any good mind - we'll see.

I'm doing some pit composting over winter, and leaf mold in bags. Never done either before. I'm an amateur.

    Thanks for reading
    Joel

Hello Joel - Welcome to the site. People on here are VERY knowledgeable about all kinds of things and they don't treat you like a complete numpty if you ask a daft question - I should know as I have a track record of asking them.
Like you I grow for as cheaply as possible.

Hello Joel, welcome to the vine. Most gardeners are pretty thrifty and you will find plenty of threads here to save a penny or two. Wilkins@ns are selling off all their gardening stock at the moment, I stocked up on a load of new square pots yesterday for 10p for 10 and a few other items that were ridiculously cheap.

            Hello and welcome.
My in-laws turned up with a load of free pots from their local GC - they only used them once and then sent them off for recycling. Better to reuse first
            Enjoy the Vine.

Hello, and welcome to the Madhouse!

I was going to say it's a bit early for SNOOOOOOOOOWWWWW! just yet, but we'd had some this early in the year two years ago. (With apologies to those who think snow is a swear word - I love it!)
