  • Seed potatoes

I'm thinking about ordering some seed potatoes for next year. I logged on to JBA who I bought from last year, as they did bags of 5 tubers - perfect for a few barrels on my small plot, but they've stopped doing them! The smallest bag the offer now is 2kg, which is far too many for me.
Does anyone know of another company that does 'sample' sized bags?

    Thanks.

If you have a Potato day near you, that's the best way to get small amounts and avoid postage costs.

Does your local garden centre sell them "loose"? (Won't be for a while yet though ...)

Marshalls sell 1kg bags (15-ish tubers I guess?), but personally I'm not keen on buying seed spuds from the big seed companies, in past years they have shipped ridiculously early and they continued shipping during the really cold spell in 2010, which JBA specifically doesn't do

Don't suppose there is an option to share some with a neighbour or two?

Does your allotment site have a shop? Failing that I agree with sharing suggestion

Bario, JBA Seed Potatoes is on here as .. http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...tattieman.html .. he hasn't logged on in a while (probably due to having his own website now) but you could try sending him a PM &/or email see if he would send you out a small pack as a "special" Other than that it's going to be wait until the "potato Days" next Spring as arpoet said earlier

            Thanks for your replies.

I've found a potato day in Edinburgh on 25th Feb, hopefully they'll have a good selection of 'loose' seeds. I did like the reassurance of ordering in advance though - ah well, maybe it'll be exciting, living life on a knife edge and all that....

If it's anything like the ones I've been to it will be fun but crowded so make a list before you go & (very important) take a biro/felt tip to write on the bags with Have you tried Kerr's Pink ? best mashing spud ever, goes brilliant with a nice peppery haggis

T&M do small bags of seed spuds and have some interesting looking collections of different varieties.

unfortunately T&M have a reputation for not delivering until late in the potato planting season
It happened to me one year - I think there are a few threads on here about it...........................

See if they have website and a facility to pre order. Our nearest potato day does.

And get there early as the stock diminishes pretty rapidly! And like BB said they are quite a pleasant day out and you tend to find a huge selection on offer!

And it's also nice to "Chew the Cod" with a few like minded growing folk! Highly recommended!

Our local Garden Centre were selling individual seed spuds last year!
