  • How can you eat that???

I consider my eating habits to be relatively tame, but, my family, friends and extended family would turn down a lot of the things I eat.

I find this attitude a bit blinkered, but each to their own I suppose.

Is there anything that you like to eat that those around you can't comprehend or find unpalatable? (Accidental slugs and caterpillars aside).
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

Yes, my favourite breakfast is sardines on toast - my OH is disgusted!

Calves Liver. I love it, but the rest of the household turn their noses up at it for some strange reason. Kippers are something else that I find sublime, but I'm banned from cooking them, because everyone else hates the smell - so when the weathers fine, I take some down to the lotty with me and cook them on my little stove down there - outside, so I don't stink the shed out lol.
What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?
      Pumpkin pi.

Oh, I love kippers and mackerel. Liver and bacon casserole was a staple mid week meal for us as kids, lovely with mashed spuds.

Oooo, not had sardines on toast for ages - used to be a staple winter tea when I was a kid.

I'll eat most stuff in theory but avoid mass produced convenience foods as much as possible - not really what you meant but I find them very yukky and I don't like not knowing what is in my food. If it's made from basic proper ingredients then I'll give it a go, especially if it can be sourced locally and if it's meat based then it should have been reared properly too.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

People often tell me that wholemeal bread is no good for making toast, but I always use it. I think it tastes much better than white toast, and is healthier too.

You can't beat it! My brother stayed this weekend and that's what we had, but the kids just ate the fish and left the toast.

Used to fight over who got the bones too - will have to buy a couple of tins this week.......... Nicely warmed up with a dash of vinegar and onto the toast to make it a bit soggy, can almost taste them now. Remember the first time I flew abroad I went to Portugal and saw sardines on the menu, didn't expect them to be fresh as I'd only ever seen them out of tins before

Black pudding. What I find worse is everyone I have met that goes ew, how can you it that? eats sausages!

Yes we all know what goes into black pudding there is no disguise, but do people accept that a lot of sausages is ground down animal to the point of pink slurry and bulked back up with meal and when they say meat % that is still any part of the animal. Oh well ignorance is bliss, apparently

I love Chinese, Italian and well most things apart from curries which the smell and look just turns my stomach. My OH doesn't eat anything like, well the list is endless he is very fussy no salad stuff, eggs , rice, pasta it goes on and on.
I use to work in a supermarket and the only thing that I could gip at thought of eating is heart. Use to have a lady come through my till every Friday with pre packed hearts. Could of gipped then and could now even thinking of them.

                          What a cool thread
Like all ready mentioned, I'm also a fan of kippers & sardines. But don't get to have them often as it's only me that eats them. The other thing I eat that always gets "that's disgusting" is marrow fat processed peas ( yes I eat veg from a tin, there I said it now lets just move on ). Another thing I don't get to eat very often because difficult to get hold of. Pigs trotters. The thing me & him have discovered since we started ferreting is the huge amount of people that turn there noses up to rabbit! A lot turn into small children " I don't like that " without ever trying it! The other thing we both like, but have to be careful who we invite round for tea is brawn. I have tried chocolate covered ants they were ok, but wouldn't rush back to have more, but at least I tried them. To finish off very tamely is he hates grapefruit apparently the food of the devil. I hate cauliflower with the same passion.

I hate cucumber, pumpkin and grapefruit. Apart from those, I will try most things. I Love liver, black pudding, faggots, real sausages and hand made pork pies, all kinds of fresh and tinned fish apart from tuna.
I refuse point blank mass produce junk food and ready meals.
I have worked in the food trade all my working life so know what's good and bad in meat.

I don't like brains, tripe or kidneys - but I have tried them!

Try everything is my mantra..........then if you don't like it- fair enough! Use this line with the grandkids as well

Like the others I eat very little processed food - except I'm a sucker for things like frozen cheesecakes and ice cream .......... so the halo often slips
