  • Do I need to repot these strawberries?

I sowed these seeds a while back and with things slowing down now I'm not sure if I need to repot them or not. This is the 2nd pot they have been in and one or two roots are visible at the bottom of the pot.
I just wasn't sure if it was worth doing over autumn/winter time or if I should wait until the spring.
    Thanks.

I would leave them as they won't grow much now and could end up sitting in a pot of damp compost over the winter which they won't like.

On the same thread, I was interested in Bob Flowerdew's proposal on GQT I think, to grow strawberries in cheap buckets, as you can hang them up by their handles and allow the fruiting stems to hang over the sides free from pests and with good air circulation.

I have twenty plants in small pots; I have ten or so cheap buckets (99c each in our DIY superstore). I am now wondering like the original poster here whether to put the plants in the buckets now and keep them in the polytunnel over the winter, or overwinter the plants in the small pots and put them out to grow on in the spring.

Won't the plants make roots during the winter if I keep the buckets out of the rain and under cover with minimal watering?

Like Wendy said Bertie, I would leave them in the small pots until early spring. I have a lot of strawberry plants myself and they are small so I am leaving them as they are.

They look nice plants. My own take on this would be to pot them up but only by one size of pot, just to protect the bare roots.
