    Butternut squash - what do I do now?

    Put in seven plants to see what would happen really.
    They've got to this stage:



    The long one is eight inches, and the round ones three.
    Do I feed them still?
    How do i know when they're ripe?
    Should I fleece them to speed up ripening?

    Not sure if they will continue to ripen now, I've used mine already, mine ended up much more 'rounded', haven't grown them before, so not really expert enough to advise. The skins were very tough, but the inside was fine age were v delicious, think mine were a little underripe, seeds didn't look very mature.

      They're going to get a big dose of winter soon, so get them indoors and eat them up. Really, they should have been full size by early September, then they'd be cured in the sun for a few days so they could store over winter.
