  • Scale on Raspberry Fruit

My Autumn Gold raspberries have been doing well this year but in the last few weeks there's been something wrong with the fruits. I suppose they're coming to an end anyway but I need to know if I need to do anything to prevent it from spreading next year.

They have patches of shrivelled grey on them. My first thought was grey mould but it doesn't look like that. They aren't turning furry, they're sort of shrivelling. It affects most of the berries but not the whole fruit. It's just patches of grey on each fruit. When eaten, the unaffected part of the berry is fine but the grey bit is really tough.

It does seem to be getting worse. Some of the fruits waiting to ripen are just shrivelling now. We've had no frosts and it hasn't been that cold. The canes are getting a bit ragged but that's normal for this time of year. It's just the fruit.

Any ideas out there? Is it just a mild case of grey mould or something else? Finally, what do I need to do about it?

My yellow autumn raspberries often have a tough, dark patch on the stem end. As if the individual segments are rimmed with black. I've no idea what causes it but its put me off buying any more.yellow raspberries.

Hmmm. The canes themselves seem fine. Just the fruits, which doesn't seem to fit.
