  • Can polytunnel guttering be used inside (to collect condensation) as well as outside?

    Morning all,

I am currently try to harvest water from my polytunnel (using tile strips that I saw used on Allotment Diary Youtube channel (Wickes Wide Tile Strip Silver Anodised Aluminium 15mmx1.83m | Wickes.co.uk) and I was wondering, considering I get a lot of condensation in my tunnel that could I do the same to collect water inside the tunnel?

Also I was wondering how I would go about converting this blue water barrel I have into a waterbutt?

    Many thanks,

    Samuel

Hi Samuel, with regards to condensation, I would look adding ventilation rather than harvesting the water.
Your water butt: The 2 white plugs will screw out into which you can put your gutter pipework, due to the fact the the lid does not come off, you may have to buy a brass tap & fit it by letting the tap cut its own thread, put some PTFE tape round the tap thread & maybe a bit of sealant.

    Edit:
I would buy this as it is 8ft as opposed to 6ft plus it's cheaper........

      Thank you for your reply.

I have finally set up some sort of guttering and it seems to work OK.

I am also considering then connecting a drip irrigation system into the tunnels from the blue barrel.

Tek your other plug out Samuel & put a hose down each hole. How are you going to fit a tap when it has got water in it? Put the tap on "before" fitting the hoses.

To convert your barrel into a butt, cut the top off just below the thick rim, flip it over as a lid and drill a couple of holes in the lowest points of the lid to collect rainwater.
