Hello I got my plot just last week ,and inherited a bit of a mess I've found a cooker ,3 wheels and tyers , some old tarpaulins that are breaking down lots of weeds and nettles but on the plus side there was a shed 3 rhubarb plants some raspbery canes an Apple tree and a black current Bush . In the last week I have weed killerd one half and covered it in some tarps placed some of the junk on top of the sheeting .cut down a lot of nettles and done a ruff dig of one bed pulled out lots of weeds and roots but it just looks a mess I'm thinking of covering the bed in card board and horse muck . So I guess my question is do I need to pull out all of the roots the ones I'm struggling with are orange gingery colour and a like hairs looks like some one scalped a ginger kid on my plot

You can dig all the rubbish, and all the fleshy roots, out - which should give you a flying start next year, and relative freedom from pernicious weeds - or cover and completely exclude light so that the weeds cannot regrow in the Spring. If there are a lot of strong weeds (like Docks and Horseradish) then they are likely to "lift" cardboard and the like, but if the plot has been well cultivated before, and thus the soil is basically in good heart, a No Dig approach should work well - you might have a bit of a battle with any strong weeds in the first year or two though, and they are hard to extract once a crop is in-situ [without damaging the crop]K's Garden blog the story of the creation of our garden
