  • Good gardening diary

Can anyone recommend a good gardening diary for 2015? I'm not into lots of glossy pictures, but would like a diary with space to write notes and with gardening reminders of what to do on certain months of the year. Would be grateful for any pointers. Have looked online but it's a bit hard to tell.

Noosner I've got the RHS allotment journal if you have a look on Am@zon you can have a peep inside to see what it looks like. but its probably cheaper elsewhere. Mine was a vine MOM gift.

Unfortunately I can not help, but wondered how much this helps?

Is it more for looking back and comparisons? or does it really help in being organised throughout the year?

Just wondered if it was worth me having ago rather than relying on my completely useless baby brain!!!

Bren, thanks a lot for this recommendation. I've had a look on Amazon and it is close to what I'm after except that I'd ideally like it to be year-specific so's I can use it as my daily diary too. What is strange is that there are lots of 'used' copies on Amazon for 1p. I might go for one of those - assuming 'used' just means it has been previously read. If it has been filled in as well, it's about as useful as the proverbial chocolate teapot (though perhaps rather fascinating!)

NG, I don't know if a diary will help me be more organised tbh - but it is worth a try!

Although I've got the RHS diary I use a note book to jot down dates I've sown my seeds, when they've sprouted then their planting out date. It lets me compare things year to year.

I keep diaries every year, Just plain old diaries nothing fancy as I tend to find gardening specific ones have too little space for making notes

Write a blog instead? You can jot down what you did on any given day, and you then have a permanent record. No limit on how much you can write "in the space provided" ... and chums can comment etc. if that would be helpful? (Debatable perhaps!!)

                      Same as GL.
A Page a day Diary. An entry a day in January, every other day in February, twice a week in March and by May, I'm lucky if its once a month.
Wish they sold 6 month diaries - new diaries have more appeal than old ones.

I just use a A4 note book. Means I can write stuff, stick pics in and draw plans and maps. Don't like scribbles or shed loads of tip ex on the pages so also means I can rip a page out and rewrite it. You can't do that in a pre printed book. You aren't restricted about space either.

Further to my suggestion of a blog (I am old, and brain is slow, sorry!) a possible additional benefit is that you can put Photos in the page with the text. I take a lot of photos of my garden - usually about twice a month, standing in roughly the same places each time, which gives me a nice record of progress etc., and if I plant some Potatoes, say, I take a photo to remind me when the date was (I don't have the discipline of keeping a diary, although I do transcribe salient info from the photos to my "when I did what" lists)

Thanks again, folks. It is interesting to hear what you all do records-wise. Tbh, anything would be an improvement on what I do now, which is to take random pix and write absolutely nothing down. I do have a blog, Kristen, though I use it to write funny (or so I like to think) stories about the allotment, rather than a true record of what went on. Perhaps I need two blogs! Or a diary AND a notebook. Will think ont.
