  • I think I have enough................

...............to last me until spring 2015

    I think I have enough:-
    Onions
    Potatoes
    Frozen tomatoes
    Pots of jam
Eggs (if the chooks keep laying)
    Cabbagey things
    Firewood
    Compost

But, I'm really going to miss:-
    Fresh tomatoes
    Courgettes
    Cucumbers
    Raspberries

    How about you?

Sounds good. May I suggest long storage tomatoes to keep you in fresh toms over winter. The Tomate de Colgar ones that Real Seeds sell are brilliant. Last year I had a few plastic punnets of them on my kitchen window ledge until Easter. Find they don't do as well in the fridge or garage but the window ledge was brilliant. They have a slightly thicker skin but still keep the proper tomato taste that beats the winter supermarket ones hands down.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

To have cause to miss courgettes would be quite welcome in this house at the moment ...

For over winter in the garden we've got :-

          kales
          parsnips
          leeks
          chard
lettuce plus some to go in the GH

          then in the freezer

          roasted toms and sauces
          runner, broad and serbian beans
          peas
          cooked apple
          blackberries
          raspberries
          herbs

          in jars there's plenty of
          jams, chutneys and pickles

and like you I'm going to miss
          Fresh tomatoes
          Courgettes
          Cucumbers
and generally nibbling things as I wonder around the garden.

I'm going to add those to my ever growing seed list.

I wonder if you could keep tomatoes fresh the same way the Victorians kept grapes fresh, by cutting a truss with plenty of stalk, and putting the stalk in a bottle or jar of water like a cut flower. Might have a try at it.

              Endless wonder.
