A couple of weeks ago my husband was stung on the back of his neck by a buff tailed bumble bee.. It must have dropped onto his sweater when he was in the garden and crawled up. He felt something on his neck and knocked it off or so he thought but it obviously crawled back up and really stung him. I'm ashamed to say I captured the bee and released it in the garden before attending to the old man. I assume it was a queen as it was very large. I know they don't usually sting but it was obviously pretty annoyed at being swatted off. I'm presuming they don't lose their sting like honey bees as it appeared to be perfectly OK. So was my husband after a good spray of pyrethrum on the lump on his neck!
