I'm not sure whether this is the right place to post, so I'm putting in here and in the weeds and pests forum.
I live in a road which has a fair sized island containing mature trees and shrubs. The island is owned by the residents of the road. At some stage in the past, someone was foolish enough to plant an aggressive form of bamboo in there, which is now rampant. By that I mean huge clumps covering large parts of the wood and which tower overhead. It seems to be throttling the very life out of the wood.
Does anyone know whether bamboo does have the capacity to kill our natural trees and shrubs if it is allowed to flourish? And does it have any effect on wildlife at all?
Some of us on the road want to rip it all out (or at least attempt to do so, as the practicalities seem immense), but some residents may need top be persuaded that this is the right thing to do.
Hope someone can help with this.
