Need to dig up some rhubarb which did not perform very well this season - having read about it , I realise it was due to the fact that it could not compete with nearby bushes. My question is , will it recover if I dig up , replant and give it some serious TLC ?

The warm winter will not have helped it.

Worth a try moving it though if it is congested.

Yes. I doubt it will need any TLC at all, let alone serious TLC!! Just making sure that it has water, when it needs it / weather is dry (i.e. well into next summer), should do the trick. Planting with manure, adding fertiliser, will all help too, but they are as tough as old boots.

I dug my rhubarb up this spring just after it had started to grow, because I was replacing the raised bed it was in. I had to slice through the main root to get it out. It looked a little sad for a couple of weeks but soon recovered and is now bigger than ever. Its pretty tough stuff.

Being a novice gardener I really appreciate the time taken to reply. Many thanks
