  • good spud for boiling?

I have harvested my blue danube and sarpo axona potatoes.

I am very pleased with the quantity

However, upon boiling these spuds, they all just fall apart and go to mush!

As it turned out this was not too much of a problem, as I was making smash and soup.

However, can someone please recommend a good maincrop potato for BOILING?

    THank you

        Just found this:

Potato Varieties, What to Grow For Flavour, boiling, baking, roasting, chipping, mashing, salad

I assume I am allowed to paste this link? If not, mods please remove!

Lady Christl and Juliette boil well for me, although Juliette isn't supplied by everyone so you may have to hunt around. I going to try Swift next year as had a lot of slug damage on Lady C. I do bake Desiree and they seem fine to me!
I used to grow Charlotte but had trouble with them falling apart. As you've already got your spuds why not try steaming instead of boiling. The fold up steamers that sit inside a saucepan are not expensive.

              Hi Wendy,

Yes I will be steaming to see how that works out.

Swift variety also looks tempting for me for next year.....

I still have a row of sarpo mira's in the ground, maybe they will boil ok?!?!?!?!?!

They seem to be good all rounders, they are the ONLY spuds we've grown this year that haven't broken up. I am going to do Charlotte, international kidney and Desiree only next year.

I found all my spuds disintegrated when I cooked them this year, even 3 minutes par boiling turned into a pot of potato soup with lumps (the salad/waxy ones too) I wasted quite a few.

So, I decided not to cook them as I was lifting them and let them sit a day or two in the shed and they were perfect. I don't remember ever having this problem before but maybe I just didn't cook them the same day I lifted them, can't remember.

I've never found a great main crop, and they're so cheap to buy I've stopped growing them. I do grow salad/FE's though.

Desiree and valour were alright for me though.
