  • Food drying machines

    Hi,
Have seen several machines that dry fruit and veg. I was wondering one would people recommend and are they worth the money?
I am hoping next year to have a bumper year so would be looking into drying items.
Are there things you would dry and some things not worth drying?
    Thanks

Have a read through the older threads on this subject (there are others if these don't help):

I have one and I use it all the time. I mostly use it to dry meat for dog teats. I dry apples and make fruit leather too.

I bought the Andrew James one earlier this year and it's been running most weeks. Pineapple, apple rings, strawberries, veggie crisps, raspberries - it's one of the best gadgets I've ever bought. And it doesn't cost the earth to buy or run.

Am going to have a go at a dehydrated version of crisps (apparently like kettle crisps), also watermelon and peaches as they are so cheap on the market at the moment. Oh and chillies and herbs, though apparently you need one that goes as low as 35C for that so they don't go brown (mine does go that low).

            Hi there,

I've just got a L'equip one. I absolutely love it. So far I've been busy making batches of kale crisps. It's currently on making some yoghurt. And tomorrow I'm going to dehydrate sweet potato. I'm hoping to dry tomatoes, make dog treats and raw crackers. I also like the idea of making my own dried mushrooms.

I got this one as you can buy extra trays and it seemed to have great reviews.

            Good luck
