  • When to move lavender?

    I planted a hedge of english lavender 2yrs ago but im wanting to move them to another spot. When and how do i move the plants? they are just finishing flowering at the minute.

    I've never moved lavender but on balance I think I would do it soonish. Clip them back, but not into old wood and lift them with the biggest rootball you can. Better still prepare the new hole first so you can lift them and replant immediately. My soil is clay and can take time to warm up in spring but is warm now so the roots will have a chance to regrow before winter. If your soil is lighter you might be ok in the spring. Keep them watered over the next month or so. I've had good results using mycorrhizal fungi when planting. You could also take some cutting from your pruning as an insurance policy that they don't survive the winter.
