  • Simple allotment cook books, any recommendations?

    Evening all,

    I was wondering if anyone knows of any good allotment cook books which are simple (in terms of I could make some nice grub using mostly grown produce as opposed to having to buy lots of extras) in which I can start cooking some stuff on my patch?

    Not sure about the "allotment" aspect, but for easy search out the one's titled 3 and 4 ingredient cookbooks.

    There may be a vegetarian one - thinking that the allotment produces vegetables. But the general idea being 3 or 4 ingredients is simple.

      I have an old circa 1970s book called "Food from your garden" which is quite good - I still see copies at car boot sales. I have a couple of modern ones (presents) which I don't rate highly. I tend to use my imagination (with varying results- usually good).

        The Abel and Cole was is very good, gives alternatives if you don't have something and measurements are mainly in slugs or dollops so very easy. It's not an allotment one as such but assumes you get a veg box so a similar idea and is written in 4 seasons with recipes in each appropriate to what is in season.

        Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

        Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

              Have a browse round the local charity shops... they have loads of gardening and cookery books for next to nowt.

                I have "The Garden to Kitchen Expert" by Dr Hessayon and "The Allotment Cookbook" by K Watkins. Both have preserving ideas too.

                  If you don't mind going online, I find sites like BBC Good Food invaluable because you can type the veg or combo of veg into the search box (separate the names by a comma) and the site will come up with several recipes to choose from. For example, I typed in 'courgette, potato' tonight and immediately got 31 recipes using both ingredients.
