  • Caged Tiger

Prowling up and down hoping the weather breaks. Already pottered in the greenhouses and shed. What do other grapes do when the weather is like this?

I have considered learning to make chutney etc but alas I am a bit of a disaster when it comes to the kitchen, OH says I am the only person she knows who can burn water.

I fear I may get dragged around the shops if this rain keeps up....

You want to have an 'indoor' hobby too, GL - I do quilting in Winter, gardening in summer (and running all the time, and just get wet! ).

Having said that, a wet Sunday afternoon is great for watching and old film on the tele and doing a jigsaw - although I invariably feel that I have 'wasted' the day if I do that.

I am making courgette crisps in the dehydrator, washing pots, making labels for the seeds I am saving for the circle. When that ends, I will have to tackle the cleaning. Watched both GW and Beechgrove this morning. Felt sorry for the Ride London people out in the rain whizzing past my road.

Bored, bored, bored. And pacing in my cage over here too.

I'm listening to Tim&Joe on Radio Leeds BBC - Radio Leeds Tim Crowther with Joe Maiden - 10/08/2014
Good gardening advice and I can pretend I'm out there doing something useful - instead of having another coffee.

                  GL...learn how to make chutney!
It's great to share the prepping of the veg/fruit/jars etc...then you have a bash at cooking it!

If you never try, you'll never know!

What's to lose apart from some glut veg, sugar and vinegar ..and maybe the odd heavy based pan!

..go on!...you could be utterly thrilled with the results ( just make sure you have enough jam jars with lids first!!!!!..yeh- I know- I learned the hard way )

I've had all the plates and stuff off the Welsh dresser and given it a good beeswax polish. It's gleaming and the room smells wonderful. Everything was prepared for Sunday lunch before 10am and I've baked a honey and lemon cake and cooked and pickled some beetroot.

Had the kitchen window open to let out the steam, torrential rain outside, in flew a buff-tail bumble, obviously looking for a dry spot, and immediately took refuge under a big leaf on a potted orchid.

I couldn't reach it among the tangle of air roots and bark chippings, so I've put the orchid out in the enclosed porch. Don't want the bee drying off and finding itself trapped in the kitchen. By the time I'd fetched the camera for a photo it had burrowed so deep into the pot I couldn't see it. I'll get a photo-fit when it emerges again.

I've lost the will to live this morning. Meant to be going camping for a few days Bristol area. But have got little girl wittering at me about the rain, what will we do if we don't go and how sad she will be if we don't go.
Have nearly got everything ready to be packed if we go. Just odd bits to put in tomorrow morning.
Can't do any gardening, haven't got anything to pick, pickle or preserve.
Got a load of washing in so will get that dried and ironed.
What a fun filled day. Might go through my seeds again or maybe order some more

OT but do you find pickled cucumbers last more than a week before turning to mush? Mine never do!

Have you got a recipe that "guarenttees" they are edible at Christmas?

                          Thanks!

                          End of OT.

Ohh yes. Pacing up and down here, too, and peering at the sky. Extra frustrated because Mr Noosner had agreed to come to lottie to help me chop out a blackcurrant bush. He can't make it during the week - he claims he has to earn a living. What a pathetic excuse!

I've been making Birthday Cards to sell at the Charity shop. Been doing this for three weeks now, selling well and being gift aided, making good money. Quite enjoying being creative. Now that I am statin free (for the short term sadly) I can even remember how to make them. Happy days
