  • Aphids on French Beans

I've never had aphids on any plants I have grown in the past but I have noticed them today! The pot is by the back door next to salad leaves and herb pots.

I have now cut the plant down as it was blown over somewhat by the wind and I had mixed up runners with the french beans and had grown into a right mess.

I understand they are very common... so why now I wonder?

If you have never had aphids before you have been very lucky as they are one of the commonest pests. Some generations can fly, and they are born pregnant so if one lands on a plant it can quickly become covered in the little blighters. You probably have a neighbour who has some which have just produced a winged generation as its about that time of year.

Ah right, thank you. I have a neighbour who grows beans and I can see them from my bathroom window, he grows them every year. Maybe they are from him... :/
