  • Darned cat!!!

I know cats are a touchy subject here but ...

I went out this morning to do a few chores and a blob of something was on the driveway about 200' up towards the road. As I approached it stood up and ran off. It was a cat.

Later I went into town for a while and when I got home my wife told me about a cat that was laying behind the bushes in front of the porch. She said it was so weak that it had lost the desire to eat. (???)

I went out to look at it and had it eating in about 3 minutes.

It's a scrawny, young, little female that must have been dumped recently. My younger son mentioned a male that he saw the night before last. Probably a litter mate.

So, now that scrawny little female is laying on the bench on the front porch and while I'm sitting on the bench checking on her she comes up to me so I began petting her. Next thing I know she's curled up on my lap sleeping while I stroke her back. I guess she's found a new home.

    Darned cat!!! That makes 3.

You are a soft touch, Dan - good! I'm glad you've helped her out - sounds like she'll be repaying your kindness with her affection.

Now what was that about a litter mate....

One can never have too many cats
Dogs have masters, cats have slaves, and horses are just wonderful

Not strictly true, Bal - think small house/mad cat woman scenario - but Dan has plenty of wide open spaces to accommodate his burgeoning cat family, I think.

I agree with you Hazel I was just thinking about when I had 4 cats, it meant that one was always about when I had a lap that needed to be sat on. In my first house I lived next door to one of the women from the league of protection for cats, she had 14 cats in a small 3bed semi. You could smell the house from the pavement as you walked past it.

So pleased for both her and you. I hope you get to spend many happy hours together - so long as the others get their turn too!

If there is a cat-sized space in your life, you can be sure one will come along to fill it
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Something special about a cat that chooses you. Ours was born in a neighbours woodpile and took six months before he or his mum could be handled. He loves a lap and she turns up when hungry or hurt.

I've got five (rehomers). They all live outdoors they all come and "help" with different bits of my gardening. I use lots of veggie mesh to protect my crops when they are small and rely on being so far from everyone else that they are not troubling other gardeners. I did have six, my lovely boy, Spike died in May from a tumour on his spine. Five sounds like a lot but I still feel it's dramatically less than I had before!

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!

Quite likely fleas if she's anaemic, Dan, I would have thought - all treatable, and as her diet improves, she'll soon get into better shape.

We bought a house that was used as cat rescue place, 16 cats had to be rehoused so we said we would have one.
the one we picked had a mother and brother so we ended up with 3!! We couldn't split them up, what's the difference between feeding one and feeding three!
Needless to say we gutted the entire house......

Our second cat was a tiny kitten when she decided she wanted to live with us- crying out to my OH on a dark, cold, and very wet November night.

We took her in and washed her ( eau de poubelle ...eeeew! ) and watched a whole colony of fleas leap off her!!...ahhhhhh....

Next day, we took her to the vet and he said she had cat flu but was too young to vaccinate against it ( in those days they used live vaccine) ...so we nursed her through it.

The carpet was astonishing to her- just soooo soft!

The first night we lost her indoors..and spend ages hunting her down, only to find her asleep in a plant pot curled around a small plant...awww....bless- the poor thing was clearly only used to the garden.

Rescuing these poor mites is a wonderful thing to do...a feral cat has a really hard life..we see plenty here poor things.

Having recently lost a cat before his time who voted with his feet to move in here 11 years ago I'm not sure if this thread is happy or sad for me (er....sad)

I know that there is a gaping Oli cat shaped hole here - not quite sure who will move in to fill it or when, but I think that it will happen.

(note: Domino cat saying 'do I look like I am bovvered?' )
