  • Brussels sprouts are being eaten!

I did a post where some folk suggested spraying with soapy water. This hasn't done much and the Brussel sprouts are still looking pretty bad. I've got veg netting covering them but here's some pics. Any ideas? Am I best just cutting or even pulling the bad ones up?

Looks like some kind of aphid attack to me, especially in the first photo. Keep hosing them with a jet from the hosepipe or a spray to knock them off.

The plants themselves look quite sturdy and healthy. We have had sprouts knocked right back by caterpilllars and other pests in July and August, but they are vigorous plants and will often recover completely by the autumn and early winter, in time to produce the sprouts in winter and spring. I wouldn't worry too much, just keep the plants 'clean' and pull off dead leaves. You will be quite surprised at their powers of recovery.

That's really great to hear. They've just had a good hosing down and I let the chickens lose so they are currently caterpillar, slug and snail free. I can see tiny sprouts appearing so hopefully they've not been damaged.
