  • French bean disease or pest. What is it?

Does anyone know what pest or disease this is? It is affecting my climbing French beans (Fortex) and is the first time I have ever seen it in eleven years of growing them here.

While it doesn't stop us eating them, it doesn't look good and makes them less palatable!

Could be Anthranose which occurs in cool rainy weather. The disease is spread in the seed and in plant debris. Have a Google.

      Anthracnose

looks very like blight on potatoes if you look at images of it - wonder if that's what is happening, on the plot (as well as blight itself) after the very wet winter

Thanks very much Thelma. It certainly looks like that is what it is. Made more likely as I collect my own seed so could have sown infected seed. I think you are right that the humid, warm conditions are causing lots of problems this year, as lots of things have suffered from fungal diseases this year, from potatoes and tomatoes to fruit and these beans.
