  • Vegging out?

When you think of GYO your first thought is 'vegetable growing.'

Why then is the main thread for vegetable growing not reached until you have scrolled half way down the page?

Surely this should be at the top?

    Rant over!

I can't help thinking that starting with an archive is not going to inspire new users.

I usually start with "what's new" but if ever I need to look through the veg forum, I do get cheesed off with the stickies which really limit how much you can see.

Can I make a bid (as an ex user) for the Lunar Planting sticky to go, it's not used much at all these days. TBH it could be archived as there are some useful links on it for anyone who's interested.

Vegging Out at the top makes more sense then a Archive at the top.
Either put the Archive last, or remove it. There must be a Delete key somewhere.

And can some of the stickies go as well (same Delete key), usually have to scroll half way down to find out what the most recent topic is in many of the main headings.

In case you are wondering I like Delete keys.

Do I ever get allowed more then 4 smilies ???

We mods can't change the format, but it's interesting to hear your views and then we can have a word with Admin what can be changed for the better!

H&S is far too late to save my face.
I describe it as: Making little dogs cry and baby's bark.

Although one lad (about 6-8 months old) found me "amusing", took one look at me when I was in a book shop and couldn't stop laughing.
When I slowly turned to him and said "I get the idea, I am the funniest looking thing in the world am I ?"
All he did was laugh more, seems this funny looking person also made funny noises.

As one who only generally uses the "new posts" button, or if I want to go to a particular forum, the quick navigation drop-down list, it doesn't bother me at all where in the list any forum is. I can see 13 forum titles in the Q/N list before scrolling, which is plenty to find whichever one I want quickly (quick navigation, see? )

I do agree that some of the forums have too many stickies that are outdated and /or obsolete though. They need sifting and sorting and thinning down a bit. the ones that are often used don't need to be sticky, surely? Some could be archived, some deleted?

I'd be up for a shake up in a few areas. Not least of which I would have a cull of none active members. There could be a big window, say 18 months. I think as long as this was clear people wouldn't mind if they had to create a new account if they had been away for ages. I've noticed some people join again under a different name anyway.

Hmm, think this was raised previously and seem to remember that if inactive users were culled then their posts went too which in some cases would be a real shame. There are however loads of supposed members who joined, never posted and didn't come back. Seems reasonable to get shot of them after, say, a year although I've no idea if that's a simple task or a nightmare.

Couldn't care less about stickies etc as only ever use the what's new page as it's much easier to keep track of what's happening that way.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Likewise, the only thing I look at is "New Posts". If I want to look at a particular subject I use the search facility.

I didn't know gorillas had that long a life expectancy! I have to use google and the growfruitandveg tag to find anything.
