    Mini San Marzano tomatoes

    Bought a pack of these the other day from Tesco and they were fantastic, great taste and nice small size.

    Ive had a look and cant find seeds for this variety, can I save some seed from the store bought tomatoes?

    Save seed and try a couple of plants to see if it comes true from seed - if it is an f1 hybrid it probably won't.

    There's only one way to find out LOL

      sound like an F1. If so the toms will be one or other of the strains that went into it.

        I suspect that the Tesco toms are the same as those mentioned in this review...

        "They're actually miniature San Marzano tomatoes grown by Village Farms, a huge greenhouse and hydroponic company with facilities all over North America. Village Farms worked with a seed company to create what they've trademarked as the Heavenly Villagio Marzano," which they claim is an authentic San Marzano tomato in a miniature size. "

        It seems Village Farms is pushing these trademarked toms and likely Tesco have supplied some.

        Given the trademark and investment in creating the seed I would suspect it is an F1 and probably won't come true from seed in the fruit... but if you have the space try it!!!

          Thanks guys

          I think I may try and have a go and see what happens, im taking over an allotment soon so should have some space to grow a good few plants

          May try and stabalize it, could see it being a good popular variety!

            I agree, these were very good by the standards of shop bought tomatoes.
            I saved seeds from them a few years ago, and have had very good results from them in the greenhouse, but they didn't do well outside.

            I'm pretty sure they were an F1, as there was some variety in my F2 plants. I've also now got saved seeds for four different F3 lines. Some are more elongated fruits, some more blocky in shape.

            Hard to be sure what seeds the commercial growers used to supply the fruit for Tesco. It could be Ravello F1, or at least that's a suggestion if anyone's looking to grow similar tomatoes. RAVELLO F1 SEEDS (TOMATO)

              Grew some more F2 in 2017 season. Some variety in the five different plants.

              Saved some seeds from the best plant. This was both healthy and productive, and produced fruit that were true to the original mini plum type.

              Update: these are the seeds saved and available in my 2018 Seed Offer
