  • Brown Turkey fig

Last year we bought a tiny brown turkey fig plant. It lived in the greenhouse all winter (laziness in moving it). this year it got moved into the real world. Amazingly the baby figs are growing and one is now beginning to change colour, from green to a yellowy brown.

How do I know when it is perfect to pick?

Fab. They're ready once they're brown, plumped up, hang downwards rather than pointing upwards, and a sticky sap is usually visible at the bottom of each fig.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll be checking it daily now. Can't wait. Only found out last year that you could grow them this far north. Fresh figs are just so wonderful.

I took notice of what they said about breaking off the shoot tips in February promoting the amount of fruit, we now have about 16/17 instead of the usual 5/6 and this sunshine is doing them no harm at all..
