  • Re-design your veggies!

Harvesting some courgettes this morning, I cut through the courgette, instead of the stalk - because the stalk was so short. It was only a little courgette to start with.
If I had my wish, all courgettes would have longer stalks, long enough for me to see where I was cutting without lying on the ground, peering through the foliage. Maybe the stalks should be like sweetcorn, with the courgettes at waist height so no bending required..

I'd also like cucumbers to make up their minds about whether they need fertilising or not. I'm tired of wondering whether I need to remove the male flowers so let's have one thing or another, please.

How would you "improve" your veggies and fruit.

Strawberries really need a design overhaul. Why grow at slug-level, and why be made in such a bird-attracting colour? Every time I think one of my strawberries should be ready to pick, something's eaten a chunk out of it.

So I think strawberries need prickly stems to keep them off the ground, and should be a less obvious colour, maybe brown.

all bush plants should be able to talk so when I have my "senior moments" they can remind me when and how to prune em.

Radish, got to be radishes. I would like them re-designed so they grow without corkscrewing out of the ground.

I'd like Cauliflowers to bend their own leaves over when the curds are formed.

I might go for runner beans, they should grow so you can find them on the plant, and not miss that one near the bottom ... at te back.... behind that leaf ..... no the other leaf .... too late, plant's stopped....

I grow borlottis, they're supposed to ripen and they can be seen

Self-supporting tomatoes would be good, as would potatoes that don't fall over and courgettes without prickles on the stems. I suppose brassicas with built in veggiemesh would be too much to ask.

Any variety of anything that immediately grows over six inches high so voles don't eat it.

Potatoes that can tolerate frost. They are a cool season crop and can't cope with a light frost? Odd when you think about it!

Insstead of re designing your veg, why not re design the way you grow them? Tall raised beds would bring you courgettes nearer to the eye or how about growing them in a hanging garden of Babylon style at eye height?

Geneticists have already re designed our poor veggies enough so give the poor veggies a break!

^^^^ Give this poor old veggie a break, Snadge, I'm too old to be slithering along on my tum in the mud, looking for courgettes. Maybe I should re-design myself to be 40 years younger instead

Cross lettuces with Venus fly traps so they catch the slugs.

Cross tomatoes with rubber plants so the stems don't break when you try to clip them to stakes.

Magnetise carrots seeds so they repel their neighbours to save thinning out.

Breed courgettes so they don't have any fruit, this would save VC bending down, and save me trying to give them away to people who really don't want them in the first place.

Make peas the size of apples so I can get more than two meals from a long row.

Cauliflowers that don't explode the day before you were going to pick them.

Sweet corn that doesn't tell my spaniel "Eat me please"

                          I'm done.
