  • Help, pics of poorly eye chicken!!

Hope my attempt at uploading a picture worked! Can anyone shed some light on my poor chickens eye? Have put a pic of other good eye for comparison too. It's definitely swollen but not red or inflamed but more milky looking. She's a miserable girl, not wanting to come out of henhouse and not laying. When we nudged her out earlier one of the others straight away pecked at her eye. Any advice would be welcome?!?

    Thanks everyone

She looks like she is going blind.
But y?...maybe she was pecked in the eye/scratched the eye/got an infection( bacterial or fungal) or it could be a symptom of something else.

I don't like the sight of the little bubbles....has she got a rattly chest or is sneezing from time ??

Well, the other eye is very clear. So my guess would be an eye infection as Nicos has already suggested. I think you need a vet. She possibly needs antibiotics.

Isolate her if she is rattley or sneezy though . Are you sure none of the others have any signs of similar?

We haven't noticed rattling or sneezing but think isolating her for time being a good idea, will get onto that and next stop vet I think.

I don't know what the problem is but if another hen is pecking at her eye, you need to stop that - by isolation. That may have caused it anyway.

She's been on her own in my yard today, seems to have perked up a little and polished off all the strawberries I gave her which seem to be a favourite. Will wait 24 hours to see if any improvement before calling vet
